Meet The Retired Pirate – My Story

Searching Asia for treasure, stories, freedom and unforgettable adventures.

My name is Shane, and this journey started with a simple decision: I wanted a life built around experiences, not possessions.

On May 31, 2018, I chose to change direction and pursue a freer way of living. That decision led me across the world, opened my eyes to a different kind of life, and showed me that the greatest treasures are not always the things we own.

Life eventually brought me back to Canada, but the dream never disappeared.

Now, on May 31, 2026, I have made the decision again.

This time, the journeywill start in Asia.

The Retired Pirate is about searching for treasure, but not just gold or coins buried in the sand. It is about hidden beaches, local stories, forgotten history, amazing food, new friendships, and the freedom to live life on your own terms.

With a metal detector, a camera, and a desire to explore, I am setting out to discover what treasure really means.

Because not all treasure is gold.
